NOBLE Chapters to Focus on Pedestrian Safety

NOBLE President Maurita Bryant announced today that all NOBLE chapters will include pedestrian safety as part of the organization's community outreach activities.

The action was a result of NHTSA Administrator David Strickland's recent release of pedestrian safety statistics which showed nearly 4,300 pedestrian fatalities resulting from being hit by automobiles. "NHTSA is doing its part in working with the manufacturers and we will do ours in working with communities,"said Bryant.

Many of these fatalities occur at night where visibility is a factor. At a minimum people should remember the basics: where there are no sidewalks walk facing traffic; wear light colored or high visibility reflective gear or clothing; never assume that a driver can see you look before you cross. These rules should also apply to bicyclists.
