The starting
annual salary is $48,756 - $73,257 (pay schedule/range 56-01), plus generous
vacation, personal holiday, sick leave and other fringe benefits. A
twelve-month supervisory probationary period is required.

Job Duties:Serving under the general direction of the Operations Lieutenant, these
positions serve as law enforcement supervisors with administrative
responsibilities. Job duties include supervising law enforcement officers,
security officers, and police communications operators and ensuring that
departmental activities are performed efficiently. Police Sergeants have delegated
authority over their assigned shift when making complex operational decisions.
Additionally, in the absence of higher-level command personnel, Police
Sergeants have authority to take immediate decisive action during emergencies
and make command-level decisions until their sworn superiors return to duty.
Special Notes:Candidates must have or be eligible to obtain a Wisconsin Driver License
upon appointment; have NO convictions for domestic violence and NO unpardoned
felony convictions, and must be free from any physical, emotional or mental
condition which might adversely affect performance as a law enforcement
officer. Candidates must be law enforcement certified or be certifiable upon
appointment. Final candidates must successfully pass a drug screening,
psychological profile, medical examination and vision screening before an offer
of employment can be made. This position will require a criminal records
review. A pending charge or conviction will not necessarily disqualify an

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Highly qualified candidates will have a
minimum of five (5) years experience as a certified law enforcement officer.
Qualified candidates for the Police Sergeant positions will have knowledge of
administrative, leadership, and motivational techniques; community and
problem-solving policing methods; public relations techniques; and the criminal
court system, court records, and administrative court decisions. Candidates
will have the ability to understand and operate within the National Incident
Management System (NIMS), and the ability to use good judgment and make complex
decisions in stressful situations. The supervision of full-time police and
security officers is a vital component of this position. To that end, qualified
candidates will possess skills in recruiting, hiring, scheduling, training,
coaching, evaluating, and disciplining employees within a union-represented
environment.
