The Columbus Regional Airport Authority seeks a candidate for the Director of Public Safety who is an innovative, strategic and proactive leader who will be responsible for directing, implementing and coordinating safety, security response, regulations and policies within the Columbus Regional Airport Authority community.

The major areas of responsibility are planning, organizing, and managing the activities of the Public Safety division as they relate to enforcing laws, protecting life and property of citizens, maintaining peace and order, and conducting criminal investigations. The Director of Public Safety will also be responsible for coordinating plans and services with various agencies and government officials, evaluating needs and resources, making effective emergency response plans, establishing policies and procedures, and proposes and managing the division budget. Will manage emergency response services, supervise and manage police personnel, ensure positive relations are maintained with the public.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Certification/Age/Citizenship

·         Bachelor’s degree in law enforcement, criminal justice or other relevant field.  Or an equivalent combination of experience and training.

·         Southern Police Institute and/or FBI Academy type training.

·         Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy certification preferred.

·         Must possess and maintain a valid Ohio driver license, in good standing.

·         Must be a citizen of the United States.

·         Must be able to obtain Secret Clearance through Federal Government.

Required Knowledge

·         Significant knowledge of management and supervisory techniques sufficient to direct safety and security activities. 

·         Considerable knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and ordinances.

·         Considerable knowledge of law enforcement and fire safety practices and techniques. 

·         Specific knowledge of federal regulations as related to airport operations preferred. 

·         Particular knowledge of Airport Security Program, Airport Certification Manual, procedures related to bomb/explosive situations, and procedures related to fire management.

·         Expertise in recognizing and analyzing safety/security problems and developing effective programs for corrective action.

·         Knowledge of gun safety practices.

·         Knowledge of personnel management, labor relations, affirmative action, and conflict resolution.

·         Demonstrate working knowledge of NIMS Incident.

·         Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite.

Experience Required 

·         Six (6) years supervisory experience in a Police Department at Lieutenant to Chief level.

·         Labor Management experience required.

Background Check     

·         Ability to pass a personal history investigation including, but not limited to, driving record, criminal history background check, credit check, physical examination, drug screen, psychological evaluation, and polygraph or CVSA truth verification.

·         Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other emergency agencies, co-workers, subordinates, and the public.

·         Ability to recognize and evaluate sound business practices.

·         Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

·         Skill in coordinating the work of others. 

·         Ability to plan, organize and monitor subordinate employee work assignments to accomplish objectives.

·         Skill in implementing Columbus Regional Airport Authority goals.

·         Must have courage and be resourceful in emergencies.

·         Must have mental alertness, initiative, sound judgment, integrity, good memory, and good powers of observation.

·         Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instruction.

·         Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with others.

·         Superior affirmative attitude and teamwork advocate.

·         Positive and experienced leadership skills.

·         Required to have regular and predictable attendance.

·         Ability to maintain confidentiality of information and to comply with all applicable rules and laws regarding same.

Salary: $83,498 - $141,945
