The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) is the nation’s fifth largest transportation system with a vast network of fixed route services including commuter rail, subway/elevated, trackless trolley, light rail, and bus serving a 2,200 square mile service region. SEPTA's Operations Division is seeking a Chief of Police, who will be responsible for planning, organizing and managing the 270-member SEPTA Transit Police Department in all security functions related to the protection of employees, passenger and property.

Responsibilities include:
• Provides leadership direction and organization to the department. Manages the overall performance of the police work force
• Ensures the highest level of personal and departmental integrity and professionalism.
• Develops strategic goals and policies for the department that are consistent with those of the Authority.
• Works in concert with other internal departments to ensure protection of Authority interests.
• Develops and maintains collaborative partnerships with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies throughout the region.
• Oversees recruitment, screening and hiring of new officers and enables their future career development.
The salary range for this position is $140,000 - $147,000 depending on experience and qualifications. Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Business or related field with fifteen (15) years of progressively responsible and exemplary law enforcement service required, which includes a minimum of five (5) years experience in high level management, senior executive or command capacity. An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered in lieu of the above requirements. An MBA or MPA certification is preferred.

The successful candidate will have superior skills and experience in the following areas: broad and extensive proficiency in all aspects of police work, excellent verbal and written communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with varied management individuals, both internal and external. Must possess and maintain current drivers license.
