Orange County, approximately 25 miles southwest of Downtown Los Angeles, the City
of Anaheim (population 358,000) is one of the nation’s premier municipalities
and California’s 10th most populous city.
The City of Anaheim is
seeking an experienced and knowledgeable law enforcement professional with
proven managerial and leadership capabilities to serve as its next Chief of
The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator and collaborator
with a strong orientation towards community policing. A visionary leader with
the ability to assess the current organization from a City-wide and big picture
perspective to move the department forward. Ideally, he or she will be an
innovative thinker with the creativity, courage, and ingenuity to challenge the
status quo and embrace non-traditional policing while promoting a true
community-oriented focus throughout the Department.
The City will benefit from
a Chief of Police who is willing to make a long-term, professional and personal
commitment to the Anaheim community. Bilingual speaking
abilities is a plus.
At a minimum, candidates must possess ten years of
increasingly responsible law enforcement experience including three (3) years
of management and administrative responsibility in a comprehensive law
enforcement program supplemented by a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited
college or university with major course work in criminal justice, police
science, business administration, public administration, or a related field. FBI
National Academy, POST Command College, and/or a Master’s degree are highly
desirable. An equivalent combination of experience and education sufficient to
perform the essential job function and provide the required knowledge and
abilities is qualifying. Candidates must possess a P.O.S.T. Management
Certificate and an appropriate, valid driver’s license.
The annual salary range
for the incoming Chief of Police is $164,841 – $247,261, DOQ.
