The Assistant Director of Public Safety, Commander of the Bureau of Administrative Services, will manage the day-to-day operations of the Bureau of Administrative Services component of the Department of Public Safety; make recommendations regarding staffing and assignments within the Bureau; oversee components of the Bureau, including but not limited to, special events, training, communications center, equipment/fleet management, crime prevention,  accreditation, professional standards/internal affairs,  planning /analysis of criminal statistics, and prepare and maintain US Department of Higher Education reports and documentation (Clery reports); manage and maintain Department vehicles and equipment; stay informed about current trends, and developments in the police field; monitor the development of the police operations budget as it relates to the Bureau; develop and supervise implementation of institutional crime prevention/community awareness/ emergency preparedness programs; represent the Department in grievance procedures; work with state, federal, and local agencies in the apprehension of personnel on UMB property; and other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Leadership or a closely-related field. 10 years of progressive law enforcement experience in a supervisory or management position which must have included: five (5) years of command responsibility in a Department of comparable size; three (3) years in state or nationally recognized accreditation process; and three (3) years in the areas of planning and analysis. Incumbents must be a certified police instructor and must have graduated from an accredited police academy. Training and experience in administrative areas (including the Clery Act). Thorough knowledge and understanding of state laws, rules, and regulations. Working knowledge of personnel management and budget processes.
