Under the direction of the Chief of Police, manage the daily operations of the UCLA Police Department. Two Captains split the operations of the department on a rotating basis with each Captain assuming responsibility for a subset of operational duties and departmental Bureaus for a period of time designated by the Chief of Police. Major duties include management of the Field Operations Bureau or the Administrative Bureau of the UCLA Police Department. The Field Operations Captain directs, supervises and manages the Lieutenants and Managers assigned to supervise 24-hour police operations for all segments of the campus community including all facilities, people and equipment, ensuring that traditional law enforcement services are provided. The Administrative Captain directs, supervises and manages the Lieutenants and Managers assigned to Administrative Operations consisting of the non-patrol elements of the department. Both Captains are responsible for long-term planning, organization, budgeting, staffing, evaluation and coordination of activities within their respective areas.
